North East Co. Apparel
SCOPE OF WORK:
North East Co. is a Japanese apparel label creating screen-printed graphic t-shirts in collaboration with selected designers from around the world.
Vertigo was invited to create two designs. Both explore the relationship between shape, colour, communication and visual language. Details below.
The Absence of Colour
The absence of colour in graphic design is just as important as the presence of colour. Before colour is added, a design must successfully translate across the negative space of the colour spectrum to ensure it's effective in its intent. The merging of no colour (white) with all colour (black) results in grey—an achromatic colour that literally means a colour without colour.
Less is Morse
Less is Morse: Based on Morse Code as a communications system, this design is comprised by the most commonly used letters of the English language—E and T—represented by a dot and dash, respectively. Emphasising the importance of simplicity in communication, allowing for messages to be conveyed and understood clearly and succinctly.
